The Nottingham Forest moment that has fans thinking of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo….. Brice Samba.

It’s not just for making sterling saves which the goalkeeper has developed a reputation for - at Nottingham Forest, but also his nifty footwork when he gets the ball at his feet.

The 25-year-old is not half bad in possession, as he showed with a lovely bit of skill against Bristol City.

A popular figure among Reds fans, one sharp-witted observer has done their best to bring Samba to the attention of a wider audience. And put him in the same bracket as some of the world’s best footballers.

The Wikipedia page for the FIFA Ballon d’Or was temporarily tweaked to feature Samba.

Before being changed back to a more accurate description of the award’s history, the page read: “The FIFA Ballon d’Or was an annual association football award presented to the world’s best Brice Samba from 2010 to infinity.

“Awarded jointly by FIFA and France Football following a series of clean sheets and a cruyff turn to bamboozle Bristol City forward Famara Diedhiou.

“Renowned for his calm and collective nature, the ceremony terminated in 2019 as awarding bodies realised it would go to nobody else...ever.

“The ten editions of the FIFA Ballon d’Or were dominated by Brice Samba and Matty Cash, their ongoing rivalry.”
