The Nottingham Forest mistake Matt Grimes won't make again as Swansea City captain offers Bristol City positive

Matt Grimes says he should have fouled Lewis Grabban in the buildup to Nottingham Forest's goal against Swansea City.

Grabban raced clear of the Swansea skipper before squaring to Alfa Semedo from the right flank, with the Forest substitute slotting home his first goal for Sabri Lamouchi's side to inflict a first defeat of the season on Steve Cooper's men.

And Grimes admits he "should have taken one for the team" by stopping Grabban in his tracks.

"It’s not a nice way to concede, I probably should have taken one for the team," said the central midfielder.

"I watched it back and it crossed my mind, I should have pulled him back but I wasn’t sure in the heat of the moment.

"If I get into that position again I won’t make the same mistake twice."

Defeat was Swansea's first at home in the league since December 2018 while it was also their first loss in all competitions since April.

The Swans return to action against Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

And despite seeing their unbeaten record come to an end, Grimes has revealed that confidence in the dressing room at SA1 remains high ahead of the clash with Lee Johnson's men.

"You can’t let one defeat become two or three in this league so we need to bounce back," he added.

"It will be tough game in Bristol but confidence is still high and we’re still top of the league.

"If you’d given us this position at the start of the season then we would have taken it, but it’s just about how we learn from the defeat. It’s our first one so we’ll learn a lot.

"You learn a lot more from defeat than victory and we’ll have to have a look at what went wrong. It’s all about us, if we play that game another nine times we’ll probably win.

"I didn’t feel like the lads were tired after the break, we just weren’t good enough."
