The Northern Ireland Women's Football Association has "officially ended" its shortened 2020 season

Following the latest suspension due to the NI Executive's 'circuit breaker', it has now been decided to end the season early.

There are plans to recognise the league 'winners' and Fair Play Awards this season, while it is hoped to finish the NIWFA Electric Ireland Cup later this year.

The NIWFA Committee held a conference call last week before reaching its decision.
In a statement posted yesterday, the association added:

"After much discussion the decision was made that no further NIWFA league matches would be arranged this year, and so our shortened 2020 'league' season has now officially ended. There will be some recognition for league 'winners' and Fair Play Awards with details on these to be announced shortly.

"Although the league season has now officially ended it is our aim to try to finish the NIWFA Electric Ireland Cup this year, if possible."

The statement added:

"In closing the committee would like to extend a massive thank you to all those clubs, coaches and individual players who took part in what were very testing circumstances for us all and also to everyone who has supported the league through promotion."
