The Northern Ireland postcodes recording the highest number of new covid cases in past week

The Department of Health has reported more than 10,000 positive cases of coronavirus in the past week.

A total of 10,490 positive cases were recorded between November 7 - 14.

And 16 postcode areas in Northern Ireland have recorded more than 200 positive cases of the virus this week.

The worst-hit postcode areas are:

  • BT45 - Magherafelt/Draperstown - 416
  • BT23 - Newtownards - 347
  • BT44 - Ballymena - 339
  • BT34 - Newry - 324
  • BT41 - Randalstown/Antrim - 305
  • BT47 - Derry - 274
  • BT48 - Derry - 251
  • BT36 - Glengormley - 239
  • BT28 - Lisburn - 238
  • BT51 - Coleraine - 238
  • BT35 - Newry/Crossmaglen - 229
  • BT38 - Carrickfergus - 220
  • BT46 - Maghera - 219
  • BT62 - Portadown - 216
  • BT42 - Ballymena - 207
  • BT19 - Bangor/Helen's Bay/Groomsport - 201

Meanwhile, SDLP leader Colum Eastwood has called for the "immediate introduction" of Covid-19 vaccine passports in a bid to ease increasing pressures on hospitals.

He accused the DUP and Sinn Féin of "stunning political cowardice" on the issue as he warned the health service was "on the brink of collapse".

It comes after ambulances were diverted away from Craigavon Area Hospital on Sunday evening, except for immediate life-threatening situations, due to "extreme pressure" on its wards.
