The Northern Ireland postcode areas recording highest number of new cases in last week

The Department of Health has reported more than 8,900 new cases of Covid-19 in the last week.

A total of 8,907 positive cases of the virus were reported between October 4 and 10.

And 10 postcode areas have recorded more than 200 new cases within this week.

The worst hit postcode areas are:

  • BT34 - Warrenpoint, Rathfriland and Kilkeel - 309 cases
  • BT71 - Coalisland, Moy and Newmills - 303 cases

  • BT23 - Comber, Newtownards and Ballygowan - 296 cases

  • BT30 - Downpatrick, Ardglass and Killyleagh - 279 cases

  • BT36 - Newtownabbey - 257 cases

  • BT82 - Sion Mills, Strabane and Dunnamanagh - 241 cases

  • BT28 - Ballinderry Upper, Ballyclogh and Stonyford - 229 cases

  • BT79 - Mountfield, Creggan and Cranagh - 229 cases

  • BT62 - Tandragee, Clare and Eglish - 208 cases

  • BT38 - Carrickfergus, Ballycarry and Whitehead - 205 cases

On Monday, the Department of Health recorded a further five coronavirus-related deaths in Northern Ireland.

Four fatalities are said to have occurred during the current reporting period, and one outside of it.

According to figures released on Monday, there are currently 329 Covid-19 confirmed patients in hospital and 35 in intensive care.
