The North East's weekend weather – plenty of sun but there's a chance of rain

The arrival of spring brought a blast of warm weather this week but it isn't going to last.

Temperatures reached highs of 15C on Thursday, which was the same for holidaymakers in Madrid and Barcelona.

The warmth in the North East came during the first few days of astronomical spring, which began on Wednesday.

Balmy temperatures came as a relief after the previous week of weather warnings for torrential rain, wind and even snow.

Saturday will be mostly dry and bright with some spells of sunshine.

At a maximum temperature of 11C, it will feel colder than Friday, and there is a small chance of the odd shower in the Pennines.

Saturday night should stay dry with some patchy cloud.

However, if the cloud clears there could be frost patches with the temperature dipping down to freezing overnight.

Sunday will again be dry and sunny but it will also feel chilly for many.
