The normal valleys terrace up for rent with a surprise addition in the bedroom

When it comes to looking for somewhere to rent that offers some bonus features, it can sometimes be tricky to find all that you might desire for the budget in your bank. Is there enough space? Does it have a decent garden? Are there plenty of facilities?

Standing outside this end of terrace house near Neath it looks neat and tidy, and a totally traditional valleys abode, somewhere that might be perfect to rent at a cost of £550 per calendar month for walks in the surrounding mountains and the village centre just down the road.

Further afield but easily accessed are the towns of Neath and Port Talbot, and Swansea and the beautiful beaches of Gower peninsula are both just a day trip away.

Considering what this house can offer, apart from the location, are a number of surprises not hinted at from the front but some of them are deducible if you put your Sherlock Holmes deer stalking hat on and investigate.

From the front street, at the end of the terrace, you can see a panoramic view across the valley to the opposite hillside over the railings. There's woodland hugging the slopes and rows of terraces climbing the landscape at jaunty angles.

So the rear of the house is surely going to share this view and that's a bonus if looking out over more than just the neighbours' rear gardens or front facades is important to you in a rented home. If this is the case, you will be overjoyed to see that this probably unexpected panoramic view is an added bonus to this home from all the rear windows.

The view is even more mesmerising from the spacious rear garden, which in itself is a wonderful and not always available bonus to a rented house.

Sitting on the garden patio, the view is breath-taking and expansive; it would be no hardship to sit out here every day, weather depending, and immerse yourself in this most appealing of features at this obviously well-loved home.

If you are in the garden and haven't realised yet what this can offer in terms of space, then look up and you'll see stories of accommodation not obvious from the standard front of the house.

From the front, it looks like a standard two storey home but the benefits of living in a house on a hillside is not just the offer of amazing views but the possibility of an extra, hidden, lower ground floor.

So if space is top of your list for your next rented home, this house with hidden bonuses can offer three floors, three bedrooms, an attic space perfect for storage and a garage too.

The three floors are a fantastic find but with only one bathroom that could present a slight problem for the occupants of the top floor bedrooms - two flights of stairs in the middle of the night when you are half asleep.

The answer to this dilemma is a rather unusual addition to the master bedroom at the back of the property - there's a toilet installed in the corner. This might not be everyone's answer to the facilities challenge but it means no tripping on the stairs late at night.

Maybe some people would change the smallest of the bedrooms into a bathroom on the top floor of this was their purchased home and not a rented home, but that would immediately decrease the value of the house going from a three bed to a two bed property.

Even if the toilet is not used, it's good to know that the trek down to the lower ground floor doesn't have to be the only option and could be the perfect solution for a family or for someone who finds multiple flights of stairs problematic.

The ground floor continues the theme of unexpected space, with the two reception rooms already combined into one very light and very sociable space that can welcome multiple sofas, stacks of wall space for artwork and shelving, and space for a desk for home working too, if required.

Down to the lower ground floor and here is where the main bathroom facilities are found, with a three piece shower room and an extra, separate cloakroom.

Again this is handy for families, as two separate rooms means that two separate, simultaneous activities can happen - definitely a bonus during the morning rush.

The kitchen diner looks out over the garden and is, again, a generous size and another place for people to gather around the kitchen table to chat and share a meal before surely spilling out into the garden to drink in those refreshing views and be very content that they live in a house with so many bonus surprises that add to the quality of life.
