'The noise they'll make' Leeds United Premier League return relished by former Liverpool man

Former England and Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes Leeds United 'deserve' to be back in the Premier League - and would improve the competion.

Next month will mark 16 years since the club dropped out of the top flight and after a decade-and-a-half of tough times and the occasional false dawn, Marcelo Bielsa has the Whites sitting at the top of the Championship table ahead of the run-in.

With the season remaining in limbo amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Redknapp has shared his memories of facing the Whites, before looking ahead to what may come.

"Going to Elland Road, it was such an intimidating place," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

"They had a really good side when we played against them when they won the league, with Gary Speed, Gary McAllister, Gordon Strachan. Really good football team and the atmosphere was so intimidating.

"And Bielsa's done a really good job there. I think Leeds in the Premier League would certainly add [something].

"Their fans, the noise they'll make. They deserve it. They've had a lot of pain at that club over the last however many years it's been since they were in the top league. They will certainly add an enormous amount to what we have in the Premier League."

Leeds were riding the wave of a five-match winning streak prior to the current shutdown, with their 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on March 7 seeing them maintain a one-point lead over West Bromwich Albion at the top of the table, with the gap to Fulham in third sitting at seven points.
