Following Valentine's Day, a new study has revealed the top locations across Scotland to propose to your partner.
Popping the question can be a nerve-racking experience, and there are countless ways to do it. One of the most important aspects of a proposal is picking the right spot. Whether it's an intimate restaurant or a place that holds special significance to you and your loved one, there is no doubt that setting is crucial when asking someone to marry you.
It can be easy to overthink and get stuck when deciding where to propose. Fortunately, to help those struggling to pick a spot, experts at Jackpotjoy have ranked the top places around Scotland to pop the question.
Coming first in at number one is Calton Hill in Edinburgh. As one of the most prominent spots in the capital, it offers panoramic views over the city and is particularly breathtaking at sunrise and sunset — you couldn't ask for a more romantic proposal spot.
Following in second, also in Edinburgh, is Arthur's Seat. If Calton Hill isn't high enough for you, then you might consider hiking up the ancient volcano, which has a peak of 251 metres.
The third destination on Jackpotjoy's list is Grey Mare's Tail in Dumfries and Galloway. If you would rather get out of the city to pop the question, then this nature reserve and waterfall offers an incomparably beautiful backdrop.
In determining the ranking, the people at Jackpotjoy considered a range of factors, including the proportion of nearby romantic restaurants compared to population according to TripAdvisor and the proportion of romantic hotels rated four stars and above in the local area.
They also weighed how picturesque the proposal spot is based on the number of Instagram hashtags and the number of people who voted the area as their top destination for a romantic weekend getaway and proposal.
Returning to the capital, Edinburgh Castle appears at fourth on the list. The historic castle has stood since the 12th century, and is popular amongst couples who want their first photo as an engaged pair to be in front of the world-famous visitor attraction.
Other spots to feature in the top 10 include Loch Lomond, the Glasgow Botanical Gardens, and The Fairy Pools on the Isle of Skye. The latter was recently named as the UK's "most peaceful walk", so is perfect for those wanting to propose in privacy.
