The nine Sheffield United players who could miss Arsenal clash amid George Baldock update

Sheffield United could be without as many as nine players for the visit of Arsenal this weekend.

The Gunners make the trip to Yorkshire to face the Premier League's bottom club at Bramall Lane, with the Blades currently 15 points from safety with eight games to play.

Paul Heckingbottom is yet to see his side pick up a point in the Premier League since being put in caretaker charge of the Blades, following Chris Wilder's departure.

He has seen his side lose all three games in all competitions since becoming caretaker manager, with Heckingbottom having to deal with a lengthy injury list as well.

Heading into the game with Arsenal, nine players have been on the sidelines for Sheffield United due to injury, with at least six of those expected to be missing again on Sunday.

Norwegian international midfielder Sander Berge has been a long-term absentee with a thigh injury and although he is now running again, he is still short of match fitness, while striker Billy Sharp is currently out with a muscle injury.

In addition, Jack Robinson and Jack O'Connell remain long-term absentees, with Jack Rodwell another also currently sidelined.

Chris Basham is closing in on a return to fitness, but the visit of Arsenal is expected to come too soon for him, while George Baldock and Jayden Bogle are both doubts, but could be involved at the weekend, along with John Egan.

Speaking ahead of the game, Heckingbottom said: "We took two more injuries in the Leeds game with Jayden [Bogle] and George [Baldock] head injuries.

"We have had to follow that protocol so hopefully they will be signed off and come through it - today was the first day of contact and hopefully they will be fit and able to go

"John Egan dropped in to the back end of last week's training and got some minutes against Leeds, had a full week training now so he is much the better for seven days training.

"[Billy] Sharp and Bash [Chris Basham] have been doing the rehab on the pitch which is good, time will tell on their injuries and how they respond."

Arsenal have injury problems of their own, with Kieran Tierney currently ruled out for several weeks with a knee injury, while David Luiz is also sidelined with a knee problem having recently had surgery.

Martin Odegaard, who is on loan at Arsenal from Real Madrid, is also expected to miss out with an ankle injury after missing the Europa League quarter-final first leg clash with Slavia Prague last night.
