The nightmare Tottenham schedule that could hand Man United a big Champions League advantage

Tottenham registered their first win of the Premier League restart on Tuesday evening as they beat West Ham 2-0.

A Tomas Soucek own goal and a late Harry Kane strike proved to be the difference between the sides as the Lilywhites moved up to seventh in the league table.

Jose Mourinho's men are now only one point behind Manchester United in fifth, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team having played one game less.

As Spurs have an awful lot to do to catch Chelsea in fourth given they trail them by five points having played a game more, fifth may be the realistic option when it comes to a Champions League place for next season.

Man City were handed a two-year European ban back in February and all eyes will be on their appeal to The Court of Arbitration for Sport in July to see if it remains in place.

While a lot of points will be won and lost in Tottenham's remaining seven games given the amount of fixtures to be played in such a short amount of time, the Premier League schedule could prove decisive come next month.

Spurs aren't back in action until Thursday, July 2 as they visit fellow European contenders Sheffield United, but their trip to Bramall Lane kickstarts a hectic period for Mourinho and his side.

The Lilywhites face four fixtures in 11 days, with the final three of those taking place across seven days, and the games against the Blades, Everton, Bournemouth and Arsenal will prove crucial to their European aspirations.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have slightly more time to prepare for games as their next five matches games are in a 20-day period, although they do also have an FA Cup clash against Norwich City to play during that time.

Wolves, who are also another team who could spring a major surprise and qualify for Europe's top competition, face five matches in 19 days, with Sheffield United also facing an eye-watering schedule as their home fixture against Spurs is the start of four games in only 10 days.

Here are the upcoming league fixtures for Tottenham and their Champions League rivals:
