The nightmare goalkeeping crisis Leeds United could face due to the coronavirus delay

Leeds United could have a goalkeeping crisis on their hands as a direct result of the coronavirus.

The Whites ' season has been put on the back-burner after all professional football across England was cancelled until April 3.

As a result, Leeds' promotion hopes rest in the balance, with uncertainty over whether the Championship season will be finished.

Should the league resume, the Whites could be handed with a problem between the sticks as a direct result of this stoppage.

Kiko Casilla has missed Leeds' last two matches against Hull City and Huddersfield Town after beginning his eight-game ban for using racist language.

As a result, Illan Meslier has stepped into the breach, keeping back-to-back clean sheets in his first two Championship matches for the club.

However, Meslier's loan deal is set to expire on June 30.

With no certainty or knowledge of when, if at all, the Championship will resume, there is a possibility that Meslier could return to Lorient with the season still ongoing.

With Casilla banned for another six matches, that could leave Leeds without their two first-choice goalkeepers.

Elia Caprile, recruited from Chievo in January, could be forced to make his Championship debut at the age of 18 years old, as a result.

Failing that, Will Huffer could be named in goal, although his contract with the club also expires on June 30, so Leeds would have agree fresh terms with him in order for him to play in this scenario. Huffer did make one appearance for Leeds last season with Casilla and Bailey Peacock-Farrel unavailable.

Should Huffer not agree new terms, it would leave Kamil Miazek to challenge Caprile for a starting spot with neither goalkeeper having ever turned out in a Leeds shirt, nevermind in the midst of a promotion battle.
