'The NHS has been so good to me... I wanted to give something back': Fundraiser gets lovely surprise as she celebrates her 100th birthday

This is the moment paramedics and neighbours surprised NHS fundraiser Win Page as she celebrated her 100th birthday in isolation.

Socially distanced well-wishers lined the streets outside Mrs Page's Middleton home on Tuesday afternoon to sing Happy Birthday to her.

On Monday the great-grandmother had completed a Captain Tom Moore-inspired charity challenge to walk 100 lengths of the driveway at her Middleton home before her 100th birthday.

Her remarkable effort has raised almost £16,000 for the North West Ambulance Service charity.

Mrs Page, who ran a bakery alongside her late husband in Middleton all her working life, had planned a big birthday party with family and friends before the coronavirus lockdown scuppered her plans.

But she says Tuesday's surprise celebrations and taking part in the charity challenge has more than made up for it.

Mrs Page said: "It was absolutely overwhelming.

"I've never seen so many people on the street.

"It was fabulous.

"I think it brought a bit of joy and cheered everybody up.

"Even the postman was pleased because he said he'd never delivered a telegram from the Queen before.

"I'd just like to say thank you to everybody who came out today and everybody who helped raise such an amzing amount of money."

Speaking earlier this month Mrs Page told how watching Capt Moore - the 99-year-old army veteran who has now raised more than £25m for NHS Charities Together by completing 100 laps of his garden - had inspired her own charity challenge.

She said: "Captain Tom has been such an inspiration.

"He's actually two days younger than me, so I thought if he can do it so can I.

"The NHS has been so good to me all my life and I wanted to give something back."
