The NFL world had so many jokes for the Giants’ hiring of Joe Judge

The New York Giants went into their coaching search with Josh McDaniels or Baylor’s Matt Rhule as their perceived top targets. But after Rhule took the job with the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday, New York waited little time to move on a backup plan.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Giants are hiring 38-year-old New England Patriots wide receivers coach Joe Judge.

Judge has been a part of the Patriots organization since 2012, spending a bulk of the time as a special teams assistant and coordinator. While the Patriots’ success is undeniable — Judge was technically a part of that success — NFL fans were beyond perplexed that the Giants went with a candidate who had never held a head-coaching role at any level.
