The Next Together by Lauren James – review

The book consists of a series of data which allows the author to cleverly travel through time. Matthew and Kate’s stories are from different time periods and how previously their riveting troublesome love had ended in their deaths. Now in 2039, Kate and Matt are on a mission to find out how their loving aunt and uncle, whose names are Matthew and Katherine and look identical, happened to die as terrorists. The story takes place in 1745 England (my personal favourite), 1854 England and Russia, 2019 and 2039 University settings.

I really enjoyed the whole concept of the story, but the farther you venture, the more confusing it becomes. You may have to read it over a couple of times to straighten the curve. Also, the ending was quite vague. The ultimate question is, what do they have to do in order to be left in love and avoid heartbreak? However I don’t think James answers this question.

The Next Together

Despite this, I enjoyed traveling to different time periods and witnessing how the building of relationships differ through the centuries.
