"The next thing he remembers is ending up on the floor": Thug, 20, bottled man after brawl broke out in pub during screening of Anthony Joshua boxing match

A thug bottled a man after a pub brawl broke out during a screening of an Anthony Joshua boxing match, a court heard.

Peter Rollisson, of Toon Crescent, Bury, admitted causing unlawful wounding to victim Steven Chadwick during the incident on 7 December, 2019.

The 20-year-old was in The Wellington pub in Bury with friends and had drunk around four or five pints of lager when trouble kicked off, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.

Prosecutor Andrew Mackintosh said Mr Chadwick told police he 'had a few words' with Rollisson's group telling them to 'wind their necks in'.

"The next thing he remembers is ending up on the floor being hit with a bottle," said Mr Mackintosh.

Police attended and an investigation was launched.

Rollisson was identified from CCTV footage that captured the incident, the court heard.

"It's clear there were words exchanged between the two [groups]," said Mr Mackintosh.

"Mr Chadwick can be seen to walk around the side of the table towards the defendant at which point the defendant picks up a bottle and is seen to step back.

"Mr Chadwick follows the defendant and the two become involved in a confrontation.

"The defendant can be seen to strike at Mr Chadwick with the bottle and Mr Chadwick falls to the floor.

"Other customers become involved.

"The defendant can be seen to strike Mr Chadwick several times with the bottle."

The victim suffered cuts to the front and back of the head, the court heard.

Judge Potter at Minshull Street Crown Court ordered Rollisson to pay the victim £2,000 in compensation (MEN Media)

In a statement he said the attack has left him with permanent scarring and headaches.

Sentencing, Judge John Potter said Rollisson had used 'unlawful' and 'excessive' force in self-defence and sentenced him to 20 months in prison, suspended for two years.

Rollisson must also attend 45 rehabilitation activity requirement days, carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and pay the victim £2,000 in compensation.

Judge Potter told Rollisson he hoped the attack was a "one-off incident" in his life and that he would not appear before the courts again.
