‘The next Final Destination movie’: Glass in the Las Vegas Strat supposedly cracks as tourist records in horror

If there’s one thing you don’t want to see when you’re in an observation tower 1,149 ft in the air, it’s cracked glass. Horror movies like Final Destination have provided fuel for our imagination in these sorts of scenarios but one person on TikTok actually experienced a stomach-dropping moment when they heard a loud sound as they realized the glass of the Las Vegas Strat was cracked.

TikTok user “@henrylujan23” posted a short clip showing the exquisite views from the tallest building in Las Vegas, AKA the Strat (formerly known as The Stratosphere). While showing viewers the dizzying heights of the observation tower, a loud cracking sound can be heard off camera. When Henry pans the camera over, a rather large crack can be seen in the glass window.

Time to leave

It would be at this point I would personally be clambering to get out of the potential death trap. While the crack appears in a seemingly harmless enough place, who really knows how safe the building is? It’s almost 30 years old now, perhaps it’s starting to show signs of wear and tear?

The video doesn’t show the aftermath although it’s safe to assume Henry got down just fine (otherwise we would have heard about it in the news). Of course, it’s only been a month since Final Destination Bloodlines hit theaters and the plot of that film revolves heavily around a huge observation tower (much like the Strat) collapsing in an explosively gory mess. It’s no wonder people in the comments went straight to referencing the recent horror flick.

One person wrote “Stratosphere Las Vegas will be the next final destination movie,” another added, “If you see a penny leave it alone,” which is also in reference to the movie.

Is the clip on TikTok real?

While there’s no doubt that the crack in that window is really there, some people have expressed skepticism over whether it actually happened while Henry was recording. One person claimed “It was already there dude I saw it two weeks ago.” It’s certainly possible that Henry and whoever he was there with simply made a loud noise off camera and then panned to the crack which would have already been there.

However, that hasn’t soothed people’s concerns over the safety of the Strat which many have claimed is in poor shape. One person wrote, “The stratosphere was in bad shape 20 years ago. I can’t imagine what it is like now,” while another claimed it was “haunted from the higher than average amount of workers who died while building it.”

In reality, the building is *probably* safe, although crazier things have certainly happened. Personally I’m not risking it, Having seen Final Destination Bloodlines I’m going to be keeping my feet firmly on the ground for the foreseeable future.
