The Newcastle United verdict that Nottingham Forest fans won't be happy to hear

Nottingham Forest have once again been linked with a move for Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle.

Forest are reportedly set to reignite their interest in the Magpies hit man, having been among several clubs keen to sign him in the summer.

Gayle spent last season on loan in the Championship with West Bromwich Albion and has found his chances limited at Newcastle.

However, he made his first Toon appearance since May 2018 at the weekend, coming on as a late substitute in the Premier League defeat at Chelsea.

And manager Steve Bruce has insisted Gayle will get his chance at Newcastle.

"What happened last year or the past, I am not really interested in when it comes to Dwight," Bruce told The Chronicle.

"The thing for Dwight is that whatever number he has on his back he's got the ability to score goals.

"I am delighted that he's around us because he is a very, very good player.

"And I am delighted he's here.

"He can knuckle down now and fight for his chance."

Gayle scored 24 goals for West Brom last term, and Bruce is a big fan of the 29-year-old, it would seem.

"I have tried to sign Dwight three times but could never afford him," he added.

"It's vitally important that he stays fit because he reminds me of why I have tried to buy him that many times.

"In training, I get those reminders as his finishing is excellent, excellent!

"I am delighted to have him.

"He's booming around the training ground and again he gives me another option, which is good."
