The Newcastle United teenage prodigy tipped for a very bright future

Newcastle's academy has produced a number of young stars who have gone on to represent the first team in recent years.

The Longstaff brothers have cemented themselves as regulars in Steve Bruce's squad, while the likes of Dan Barlaser, Tom Allan and Kell Watts have all featured during his tenure as Magpies boss.

Under-23s stars Jack Young and Elliot Anderson have also had a taste of being on the bench this year and there are plenty more young stars on the Magpies' production line.

As such, 16-year-old Michael Ndiweni is now being tipped as one to watch in the academy ranks.

The midfielder, who is eligible to play for both England and Zimbabwe, has earned a spot in The Guardian’s Next Generation 2020, highlighting 20 of the best young talents at Premier League clubs.

Blessed with a 'very decent' right foot, his 'outstanding character' saw him named as a 'Chronicle Champion' last year.

Ndiweni was handed the Young Role Model award for showing 'incredible dignity and compassion when reporting his peers had used racist language'. His conduct through the investigation and resolution of what happened was outstanding and he has become a role model at St Cuthbert’s High School in Newcastle.

He has since graduated to Newcastle's under-18s side and grabbed a goal and an assist in their first game of the season - a 2-2 draw with Leeds - and his progress will be monitored keenly this term.
