The Newcastle players who could leave this summer as Magpies fans are split on mooted exchange

Here is your 4am Newcastle United digest.

'Tough one' - Newcastle United fans split down the middle over mooted Arsenal swap deal

Newcastle fans have offered a mixed reaction after talk of a swap deal to sign Joe Willock permanently from Arsenal emerged.

Willock was in imperious form for the Magpies during a season-long loan spell last season and became the youngest player in Premier League history to score seven goals in seven consecutive games.

Understandably, Steve Bruce is desperate to seal the 21-year-old's return to Newcastle on a permanent basis this season but money is expected to be tight at St James' Park.

As such, Newcastle could throw goalkeeper Freddie Woodman into a possible swap deal plus cash package to secure the services of Willock.

Chronicle Live understands that Arsenal are looking to add an English goalkeeper to their home grown quota and will use the funds from Willock to bolster their own transfer kitty.

But while fans are keen for Willock's return, some Magpies supporters aren't as keen to offload Woodman - a goalkeeper who has long been touted as Newcastle's future number one.

The former £22m Newcastle transfer target now in the race for Euro 2020 Golden Boot

It was only a year ago that Patrik Schick was widely reported to be Newcastle United's 'top transfer target'.

The Czech striker was linked with a host of Europe's leading clubs following an impressive loan spell with RB Leipzig.

Head of recruitment Steve Nickson was understood to have put Schick towards the top of the transfer shortlist ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

Fiorentina and AC Milan were also credited with an interest in the Roma striker, who had struggled to impress in the Italian capital following a club-record deal but was still valued at around £22m.

In the end, Schick secured a return to the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen while Newcastle opted for Premier League experience with Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

It is a decision no Magpies fan will regret, with the former England international making an immediate impact and bagging 12 goals in an injury-hit debut campaign.

Five Newcastle United players who could be sold to raise transfer funds

Newcastle United will be operating on a limited transfer budget as they plan their summer recruitment.

Like many clubs, the Magpies have felt the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and will look to the free transfer market and loan options to bolster their squad.

There are funds available, but with the takeover arbitration ongoing, Steve Bruce and Co know they will have to look for bargains over the coming weeks.

United have been linked with a move for Celtic's Kristoffer Ajer, with a bid of around £8m thought to be enough to land the Norwegian.

But if they want to prise Joe Willock away from Arsenal then they are either going to have to come up with a transfer fee in excess of £20m, or negotiate a second loan.

One way of bolstering the transfer kitty is by moving players out. United have seen Christian Atsu and Henri Saivet leave as their contracts expire, but while that eases the pressures on the wage budget, it doesn't add to the coffers.

United won't want to weaken their squad, of course, but are there players they could sell to raise money?

Here are five potential candidates - although whether fans would want to see some of them leave is another matter.
