The Newcastle fans saying the same thing about Harry Kane as takeover edges closer

It looks as though the long-protracted takeover at Newcastle United may be edging ever nearer, much to the delight of Magpies fans.

Reports emerged earlier this month that the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PiF) were closing in on a takeover from controversial chairman Mike Ashley.

Documents emerged from Companies House on Tuesday afternoon that show there has been official contact between Amanda Staveley, who is the ‘face’ of the deal and Ashley’s St James’ Holdings.

Newcastle United chiefs have offered a no comment response when asked about the possible takeover by the Newcastle Chronicle.

Alasdair Gold on Tottenham's most exciting prospects

A suggestion is that a takeover of around £300 million is on the table.

It is perhaps no surprise that the news has been met with delight by Newcastle fans, with Ashley not a popular figure around St James’ Park.

The potential takeover ahead of the summer transfer window could mean that the Magpies will find themselves with a bigger transfer budget than expected.

Reports emerged over the weekend that Tottenham have put a price of around £200 million on the head of striker Harry Kane.

Upon hearing the news of the takeover becoming nearer to being a reality Newcastle fans were quick to make a joke and pick out the Spurs man as the new owners’ first bit of business.

football.london understands that despite reports, Tottenham will not Sell Kane to any of their Premier League rivals this summer, with Manchester United heavily linked with a move for the England man.

Newcastle are currently in 13th position in the Premier League but are likely to have high ambitions over the next few campaigns should the takeover go through.

The Toon last played European football when they made the quarter-finals of the UEFA Europa League in the 2012/13 season.
