The new world rugby rankings table as Rugby World Cup drama sees Wales overtake England and Japan hit new heights

After just over a week of Rugby World Cup action, the global rankings table has shifted compared to how teams entered the tournament.

New Zealand are now top of the table after Ireland came to Japan ranked the number one side in the world, while the Brave Blossoms have progressed to a record eighth place in the table after beating Russia and stunning Ireland on Saturday.

It was only after Japan's first game, where they beat Russia 30-10 in the tournament opener, that they equalled their highest ever ranking of ninth. They had entered the tournament at 10th.

Wales have fifth to second in the table with that win over Australia on Sunday seeing them bump England from second to third.

  3. England (88.13) - same
  4. Ireland (85.93) - down three
  5. South Africa (85.75) - down one
  6. Australia (83.52) - same

  8. Japan (80.70) - up two
  9. Scotland (80.62) - down two
  10. Argentina (76.79) - up one
  11. Georgia (75.06) - up one
  12. Fiji (72.42) - down three
