The new world rugby rankings table as England reach 15-year high and Wales and All Blacks fall after semi-finals

Wales' semi-final defeat at the hands of South Africa has seen them slip in the latest Rugby World rankings.

A brave effort from Warren Gatland's troops ultimately saw them fall short as they were beaten 19-16 in Yokohama, denying them a first ever Rugby World Cup final.

It brings a disappointing end to the Kiwi's time as Wales boss, although there is of course the small matter of the bronze medal match against the All Blacks on Friday.

To compound their disappointment, Wales have now fallen one place to fourth in the latest rankings, just behind New Zealand, who slip one place into third.

Bitter rivals England are top of the pile for the first time in 15 years ahead of their showdown with South Africa in the final, with the Springboks up two places into second.

Elsewhere, the rest of the top 10 is unchanged as we hurtle towards what will be a fascinating final.

The rankings table is worked out using a points exchange system between the two sides in each match, with Rugby World Cup matches counting double.

This article   explains exactly how they are worked out.

Latest world rugby rankings:

1 England 92.29

2 South Africa 90.71

3 New Zealand 89.92

4 Wales 87.21

5 Ireland 84.45

6 Australia 81.90

7 France 80.88

8 Japan 79.28

9 Scotland 79.23

10 Argentina 78.31
