The new skills lockdown is gifting to some Leeds people

Leeds residents have been stuck indoors for more than seven weeks now meaning people have found new ways to keep themselves occupied without breaking any lockdown rules.

With offices being closed and people working from home, there has never been a better time to pick up on a new skill or take part in hobbies which they would normally have no time for.

We asked our readers what skills they have learnt during this time and we have put together a list of them.

Here are some skills people have picked up during this lockdown period.

  • One reader said they have learnt to sew and how to use a sewing machine. With this new skill, they have been able to make fabric masks. A skill which will probably save a lot of money in the future.

(Dawn Harvey)
  • A few people have tapped into their creative side and have started to draw again. One reader has picked up diamond painting. This type of painting involves the painter sticking beads that shine like a diamond onto a canvas, which sounds so therapeutic!

  • Another one of our readers has taken on photography and have been capturing their garden during the  lockdown.

(Leham Millin)
  • Someone else has been using this time to improve their guitar playing skills as well as learning how to create and design a website.

  • One thing that has proven to be very popular is baking. Tons of people across the city have decided this is the perfect time to learn to make their favourite treats leaving shelves empty in supermarkets and there is even a flour shortage.

(Graham Ellis)

Other readers have also learnt how to change the timer on the oven, how to cut their own fringe, patience, how to make a cocktail and one reader pointed out everyone has learned how to 'wash their hands properly'.
