The new Premier League TV deal that will affect Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham this season

The Premier League have confirmed that an extra 20 matches will be broadcast live on television this season after releasing their fixture list on Thursday morning.

It was first reported a few weeks ago that top-flight clubs have opted against televising every game as they did during Project Restart.

But it is now believed that additional matches will be shown to compensate for the fact that fans will be prohibited from attending games until October at the earliest.

The governing body has confirmed that the additional live fixtures, 12 will be shown on Sky Sports, six on BT Sport and two on Amazon Prime Video.

The Premier League has also confirmed that the UK broadcast selections for the early match rounds will be confirmed next week.

“The Premier League has agreed with its UK broadcast partners to increase the number of matches shown live from 200 to 220 for the 2020/21 season only,” a statement from the Premier League read.

“Of the additional live fixtures, 12 will be shown on Sky Sports, six on BT Sport and two on Amazon Prime Video.

“The UK broadcast selections for the early match rounds will be confirmed next week.

“There will be two additional midweek programmes: one will be played across the weeks commencing 11 and 18 January, and the second will take place on Wednesday 12 May. All these matches will be broadcast live.

“The 2020/21 season will begin behind closed doors.

“The Premier League is committed to getting fans back into full stadiums as soon as possible, with safety always being the priority.”

A number of clubs had sought permission to stream non-televised matches on their websites using the iFollow service developed by the EFL to allow fans to watch all the action live.

But multiple reports have since claimed that the proposal was blocked by an alliance of Sky Sports, BT Sport and Amazon Prime, the three main broadcast partners of the Premier League.

While the Premier League has also announced there will be two additional midweek programmes next season.

One will take place across the weeks commencing January 11 and 18, and the second in the week commencing May 10.
