We know from the recent history of military action that things can look very different in retrospect. Nevertheless a choice has now been made and at least, on this occasion, we have had in advance a full and open debate on all the pros and cons of taking such a step, not just among the politicians, but throughout the country. • Britain is at war again for the fifth time this century. Only France and Russia have thrust themselves into more conflicts these 15 years, and both of those nations have suffered terrorist reprisals this autumn. “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap” [Galatians VI:vii]. Unfortunately, those who reap the consequences are the innocent citizenry on both sides, few of whom choose to be involved.
