The new players' tunnel is unveiled at St James' Park - sending a clear message about Newcastle United

The new players' tunnel at St James' Park has been unveiled - and it carries a very clear message.

Last September, Chronicle Live revealed the club's plans to refurbishment the tunnel, and work was finally completed last week.

Gone are the white tiled walls which had the club's badge and the logo of Sports Direct emblazoned on them.

Images of fans now cover the walls lining the exit to the pitch - with the message 'we are United ' accompanying the wall wrap.

The players were pictured walking through the tunnel for the first Premier League game of the season against Arsenal

Newcastle's facilities manager Eddie Rutherford last year told Chronicle Live about the idea behind the redesign.

"When the players come out instead of brick walls and it looking dated, you’ll feel inspired when you walk through.

"The idea is that you go down it and you know where we you are. A sense of belonging, a sense of where you should be."

The work inside the stadium comes after a repaint of the walls behind the Sir Bobby Robson statue, and a revamp of the player's entrance to the stadium in the Milburn Stand.
