The new Miss Manchester has been crowned - and she is related to Bob Marley

The new Miss Manchester has been crowned - and Rennae Chapman is delighted to have won the sash and tiara after taking part in her first ever beauty pageant. Rennae is passionate about health and fitness, and also has a rather famous family link to reggae legend Bob Marley.

This year contestants from across the north west took part in a contest at Manchester's Flawless Photo Studios with an interview and public vote to win through to Miss England, rather than a traditional pageant style event. And Rennae, 26, from Salford, won the title of Miss Manchester and will now go on to the finals in October.

She was crowned along other regional winners Jessica Gagen as Miss Lancashire and Jess Hynes winning the title of Miss Cheshire. Rennae said she was delighted to be representing Manchester at the finals in October, and hopes to use her platform to raise awareness for health and fitness.

Rennae, who is also training to be a pilot, says she still can't quite believe she has won the title. She said: "It still hasn't really sunk in.

"My family they are ecstatic. It came as a big shock to all of us but they're so happy for me and supporting me to become Miss England."

Rennae's claim to fame is her family link to reggae pioneer Bob Marley - who was a cousin of her father. She is a huge fan of his music, and that of his son Damian Marley, who she saw in concert earlier this year.

She says: "We are related on the dad's side of my family, and we've always known of that link. I remember we went to visit Jamaica when I was very little, but I've not been back there since."

Rennae loves to keep fit and healthy and has previously worked as a personal trainer - which is when clients would first suggest she should apply for Miss World. But it was only this year she had the confidence to apply for the Miss England event.

She says: "I want to try and find a good charity to represent and use my platform now to support them. I also specialise in diabetes my previous job was a diabetes practitioner, and I'm now a project manager in the health industry and work in child immunisation.

"I've had three to four years experience working as a diabetes practitioner and I feel proud that I've managed to help people with pre-diabetes get into normal, healthy lifestyles, it has been quite rewarding.

"I love fitness and staying active, and go to the gym every day five times a week."

At the Miss England finals, Rennae will compete in a series of rounds incuding a fitness round, talent round and an eco-friendly round. The competition is held with the ethos "Beauty with a purpose".
