The new measures in place for Aldi shoppers - as supermarket has its say on children in store

Budget supermarket Aldi has introduced more rules, asking people to shop alone where possible.

Aldi has posted on Twitter to let shoppers know about a new "one person, one trolley" rule across all of its UK stores.

The new measures are being introduced in a bid to protect staff and shoppers and help reduce the spread of coronavirus.

Its tweet said: "Please shop individually wherever possible. In order to help with social distancing, we are encouraging all customers to try and reduce the number of family members they bring with them into our stores."

The tweet was shared along with an image which also included a statement in which Aldi asked parents to "shop alone if possible".

Are children allowed in to stores?

Obviously it is not possible for all parents to shop alone, for a variety of reasons, and so Aldi has reassured parents children are not banned from stores completely.

The Aldi statement says: "Where necessary parents can shop with their children, but like all supermarkets, we're asking people to shop alone if possible to support social distancing in our stores."

The supermarket has also announced new measures at its trolley and basket stations this week.

Customers will now be offered wipes to disinfect the basket or trolley they pick up at the entrance of the store.

On top of that, early opening on Sundays is reserved for NHS workers, and those who work in the emergency services, while exclusive access will be given to elderly and vulnerable customers on Monday mornings.
