The new M&S collection is more hyped than the Topshop revival — here's what to buy

Somehow, between hushed office mutterings and feverish link sending in friends’ group chats, the new M&S collection has managed to drum up even more hype than the Topshop revival.

Launching this week, the excitement around the new M&S AW25 collection is thanks to what the brand calls “the Autograph effect”. The more upmarket line of M&S’s womenswear has always boasted an impressive fanbase, with Alexa Chung and the Princess of Wales helping to bolster the brand’s reputation.

And it isn’t hard to envision either woman in the AW25 collection, which is at once refined (think tartan skirts and burgundy mules with gold accents) and contemporary (the collection’s crocodile-style trench could be straight out of a Burberry campaign).

If you were particularly taken with the autumn/winter runways at London Fashion Week this February, the new M&S collection is a great source for similar styles and silhouettes — minus the eyewatering price tag.

The hype for the latest M&S collections hasn’t materialised out of nowhere. It has been building steadily, with M&S reporting that the Autograph side of the business has more than quadrupled in value over the past three years alone.

The collection is available in stores and online from Thursday, 18 September.

Standout items include a black sequinned handbag that’s sure to be the talk of party season, a Sandy Liang-esque little black dress with a bowtie bust and a leopard print blazer which has 2000s Kate Moss written all over it.
