Coronavirus lockdown in Scotland: All the new restrictions that come into force today

Strict new measures come into force today following an increase of coronavirus cases in Scotland.

Nicola Sturgeon outlined the changes on Tuesday at the Scottish Parliament.

The First Minister said the measures were designed to "deny the virus the opportunity to spread" between households.

As of today, all hospitality venues will be required to close at 10pm.

The curfew applies to licensed premises including cafes, restaurants and bars across Scotland.

Ms Sturgeon said the aim of the curfew is to reduce the amount of time people are spending in licensed premises to "curtail" the spread of the virus in an environment where there are higher risks.

It's hoped the move will allow businesses as far as possible to trade and provide jobs.

All businesses must still comply with all the hygiene, safety and mitigation rules.

Local authorities will have the power to inspect, enforce and close premises if they're not complying.

Scots are strongly advised not to car share with people not in their household unless absolutely necessary. The rule doesn't include taxis where face coverings must still be worn.

Changes to indoor and outdoor visits are also now in force.

All indoor visits to other households are currently banned across the country.

Two households are allowed to meet up outdoors, including in a private garden, as long as there's no more than six people in the group.

There's no limits for children under 12 playing outdoors with their friends and young people aged 12 to 17 will be able to meet outdoors in groups of up to six, physically distanced, but they don’t all need to be from just two households.

The Scottish Government will review the restrictions every three weeks.
