The New Leatherface Is Coming, Thanks to A24 and This ‘Anyone But You’ Star

When news originally broke in the summer of 2025 that people were vying for the rights to Texas Chainsaw Massacre, there was only one option for me: Glen Powell and A24. And now, the bidding war is finally over.

A24 is officially set to produce a series based on the iconic 1974 film. The executive producers for the series include Spooky Picture’s Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, Image Nation’s Ben Ross, Barnstorm’s Glen Powell and Dan Cohen, and Exurbia Films’ Ian Henkel and Pat Cassidy. Strange Darling‘s JT Mollner is set to write.

To Deadline, Mollner and company spoke about the news. “I’ve said publicly that I’m not interested in remaking perfect films, and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a perfect film,” Mollner said. “Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel created something bold, transgressive, and truly seminal that holds up even today as the gold standard for horror. When the opportunity for a long form exploration into this world arose, I saw it as a fresh way in, as well as a way to honor the existing folklore. I can’t imagine better partners for this approach than A24. This is truly an honor.”

Powell added, “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is one of my favorite films. It defined a generation of horror films and over half a century after its release, it remains one of the definitive movies of my home state. I’m honored to have Barnstorm help bring in a new chapter for such an iconic title and franchise. With a marquee home in A24 and visionary filmmaker with JT Mollner, alongside our top shelf producing partners, I couldn’t have dreamed of a better team for such a dream property.”

It is exciting for fans of Leatherface

I’ve been waiting for answers on this since July of last year. At San Diego Comic Con, I spoke with Roy Lee. He is producer of The Long Walk and frequent collaborator of JT Mollner and we spoke about the rumors at the time. “Well, there is some validity to it and we’re still in discussions, but nothing that’s concrete just yet.”

Mollner is set to write the new adaptation that is a television series. As of right now, Glen Powell and his production company are producing. According to Deadline, he’s only producing. When I spoke with Mollner about how it felt to see so many excited about his take, he shared that it was great to see how excited people were over the idea.

“It feels very good regardless of whether any of those rumors are true, it’s really nice because wow, people would like to see my version of that,” Mollner said. “My company used to be called No Remake Pictures. I’s now called Electric Lady just in case, to keep my mind open. But I don’t like the idea of remaking movies that I think are perfect. And I will say that I do think Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a perfect horror film. But yeah, you know, Glen (Powell) is a tremendous actor. And one of the first like real movie stars to come along in a long time. I was lucky enough somebody exposed him to Strange Darling. And we got to take a meeting and he was really excited about it.”
