The new iOS update lets you automatically block spam calls - here's how

Picking up the phone to be greeted by 'We hear you've been involved in an accident that wasn't your fault' is one of life's greatest annoyances.

But spam calls such as these could be a thing of the past.

Apple has added a clever new feature to iPhones capable of the iOS 13 update that will make your life that little bit less stressful.

The feature, called Silence Unknown Callers lets you avoid getting calls from people you don't know, MirrorOnline reports.

Once the feature is activated, calls from unknown numbers are silenced and sent to your voicemail, and appear in your recent calls list.

Apple explained: "Incoming calls will come through from people that are saved in your contacts list, recent calls list, and from Siri Suggestions to let you know who’s calling basedon phone numbers included in your emails or text messages."

If you place an emergency call, the Silence Unknown Callers feature is temporarily disabled for the next 24 to make sure your iPhone can be reached.

Best of all, it takes just seconds to set up.

How to set up Silence Unknown Callers

1. Go to Settings, then Phone

2. Scroll down and select Silence Unknown Callers

Before you activate the feature, make sure you have important contacts saved or you could miss a phone call.
