The new Hyundai i10 is revealed

THE wraps have come off Hyundai’s new baby and the latest i10 has grown to near supermini proportions.

With a significantly wider and lower stance – both by almost an inch – the new car from the Korean car maker is also gong to be available with features normally associated with bigger models.

Initially the new 10 will come with a choice pf two petrol engines – a 1.0-litre three-cylinder developing 67PS and a four-cylinder 1.2 with 84PS on tap.

Five-speed manual and automatic gearboxes will be offered with both engines and Hyundai has set emission targets of 103g/km for the 1.0-litre and 107g/km for the 1.2.

That equates to 63mpg for the 1.0-litre car and 61.2mpg for the 1.2 while an eco pack option will also be available on the smaller engine – which reduces seating capacity to four – and has a target CO2 return of 98g/km (66.8mpg).

The interior of the car is also roomier and comes with an eight-inch touchscreen as well as Hyundai’s new Bluelink smartphone telemetry system. Boot space on the third generation model – a strength of the current I10 - is unchanged at 252 litres.

Other changes include a new-look mesh front grille with round daytime running lights set either side at the top.

The new i10 will have its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show and is due to be on the road early next year. Performance details and pricing is still to be released but the current model is priced from £9900 to £14,443.
