The new club night taking place this Pride that puts LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people first

There's a new club night this Saturday at Manchester Pride - and it's got LGBTQ+ woman and non-binary people at the forefront.

What She Said Club has held events in the city before, but this is its first event to take place during Pride Weekend.

And the organiser, Gaydio's Roisin Murray, believes the event, which will take place outside the Gay Village, is filling a gap in the market.

"There is no specific event organised by Pride specifically for women and non-binary people so I want to ensure there is," Roisin said.

However, there will be an early evening gig on the Sunday of Pride which Roisin will be DJing at.

"I guess my event is different because it’s putting LGBTQ+ women and non-binary people first. I find out what they want to see in a bar/club, what makes them feel safe, what music they want to hear, and I bring it to them.

"What She Said isn’t a women or non-binary only space, queer friendly friends are more than welcome, we just want the former groups to feel that when they hear it’s a What She Said event, they’ll immediately know they can go there with friends, or even by themselves, and know there will be other people, welcoming people, that look like them and love like them," Roisin said.

She also that that the events are a much-needed platform for up and coming female and non-binary song-writers, DJs and producers.

"Many club nights just book the white male and every artist needs someone to give them that first chance."

Roisin launched What She Said back in 2019 after feeling like there was nowhere LGBTQ+ woman and non-binary people could 'call their own'.

"There’s nowhere they can go to and know they’ll be safe, know they’ll be welcomed, and nowhere they can go to and know they’ll meet others just like them."

The first ever What She Said event was held at YES bar and sold out - giving confidence to Roisin that what she has created really is needed.

The What She Said event will take place on Saturday, August 28, from 9pm to 3am, at Lock 91, 9 Century Street.
