The new cheaper homes in Newport that will replace old launderette

Plans for nine affordable homes at a former launderette in Newport have been given the go-ahead.

Plans by housing association Pobl for nine homes on the site of the former Paragon Laundry on Bath Street have been given planning permission.

The plans include the demolition of the existing building to build seven three-bed homes, one four-bed homes and one two-bed homes.

The houses will each have gardens and access to them will be via Trostrey Street, which will accommodate nine off-street parking spaces.

A design and planning statement on the application says that the site has been vacant for “a significant period of time”.

It says: “An opportunity exists to provide a suitable beneficial re-use of the site and provide much needed affordable housing, and prevent the site becoming a target for anti-social behaviour.”
