The new Animal Crossing bugs to catch this August

Get out there and start catching (Picture: Nintendo)

If you're as obsessed as us with filling out your Critterpedia, you'll share the excitement a new month brings to Animal Crossing.

With the arrival of August, there are new bugs, fish and underwater creatures you can collect around your island.

Unlike last month, there are only three new critters to snag, one of which can be found on trees alongside all the other cicadas and beetles.

Spare a thought for Blathers, who is going to have to examine these bugs up close.

The huge tree in the museum is where you'll find the secret, but only at night (Nintendo)

New bugs to catch in August

Critters found on the ground

  • Migratory locust: available from 8am - 7pm, can be found hopping about the island.
  • Rice grasshopper: available from 8am - 7pm, found on the ground.

Critters found on trees

  • Walker cicada: available from 8am - 5pm, can be found on trees

That's all on the new bugs, which could be a blessing in disguise if you're having trouble keeping up and catching everything in a month.

But that's not all, there are new fish to scoop out of the water as well, which we'll cover in a separate guide along with the new sea creatures you can dive for.

If you're having trouble finding all the new beetles and cicadas that were added from July, then you might want to plant more trees!

This will give you a larger chance of encountering different bugs instead of the same ones over and over.

In other Animal Crossing news, the latest free summer update went live at the end of July, adding weekly fireworks shows, dreaming and a way to backup your island save data.
