The National Trust car parks near Bristol which are reopening

The National Trust has started reopening some car parks near Bristol after the Government eased the coronavirus lockdown.

The charity for places of historic interest or natural beauty began bringing smaller car parks back into use on May 13.

And it has today (May 18) launched a booking system on its website for some larger car parks, which will only be available to those who have booked.

The National Trust says it wants to increase access to open green spaces and nature.

What the National Trust says

The National Trust issued a statement today: "We're urging visitors to check online for the latest details and booking instructions before travelling.

"Members will be able to book a space for free [at larger car parks], while non-members will need to pay in advance for their space.

"For now, while the First Minister in Wales and the Northern Ireland Executive reiterate the 'stay at home' message, all car parks in Wales and Northern Ireland will unfortunately remain closed.

"Sadly, for the time being our pay-for-entry places, including houses and gardens, will need to remain closed, due to the latest Government guidance restricting the public’s use of outdoor ticketed venues.

"When we get the chance to reopen any pay-for entry places it will be phased and gradual to ensure that we protect any local communities from being overwhelmed. In order to maintain social distancing when they reopen, we plan to introduce a pre-booking system."
