The National Library in Edinburgh is on the hunt for a Rebus fan to curate Ian Rankin's archive

The National Library of Scotland are on the hunt for a Rebus fan to curate the "Ian Rankin project".

The Fife-born crime writer recently gifted his literary archive to the library, donating around 50 boxes of material.

The collections spans more than 45 years and includes typescripts of manuscripts with handwritten annotations and notes by the Rebus author, as well as correspondence with the likes of JK Rowling .

Dating from 1972 to 2019, it is described by Rankin as “a pretty complete author’s life, late-20th century-style” and will sit alongside the archives of other iconic Scottish writers.

But the extensive collection needs an overseer and the library is now looking for a Rankin enthusiast to curate his works for a salary of £27,777 per year.

Their job would be to arrange, describe and index the archive fully and to make them accessible to the public via the library databases.

It will also be up to the curator to promote the collection and its value through social media channels.

The ideal candidate is also required to have scholarly interests in modern Scottish Literature, a particular interest in Ian Rankin, experience in curatorial work and an ability to manage digital resources.
