The National Eisteddfod has been postponed due to coronavirus

The National Eisteddfod has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak.

It was confirmed by organisers on Monday morning after 148 more cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Wales on Sunday.

A message posted on the website reads: "We have had to take the difficult decision to postpone the Ceredigion National Eisteddfod until next year because of Covid-19 infection.

"This decision comes at the busiest and most expensive time of the year, as we finalise the arrangements and contracts.

"We were about to announce the details of our artistic programme for the Eisteddfod week, which promises to be one of the best ever.

"We all have very difficult months ahead, so if you are in a position to help the Eisteddfod in Ceredigion in any way, we would be very grateful for your support."

It's said there are many things people can do to help at the moment to ensure next year's Eisteddfod, and future events, can go ahead.

The easiest way is by making a donation to the Ceredigion Eisteddfod online, and payments can be made any time before the Eisteddfod takes place.

Every penny is claimed to make a difference to the cause.

Tips on helping children cope during coronavirus crisis

Commenting on the announcement that this year’s National Eisteddfod has been postponed, Suzy Davies AM, the Shadow Minister for Welsh Language, said: “We were all anticipating this. However, it's still a disappointment to the many thousands who look forward to the Eisteddfod every year.

“A lot of hard work goes into this unique event.

"Even though we won't see the fruits of it this year, next year will be a double celebration of the resilience of the nation.

“For now, let's concentrate on protecting our NHS and staying safe.”
