And today, we reveal the faces of the men convicted recently for their despicable sex offences involving children.

Liam Williamson

Liam Williamson, of Blyth, jailed for attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming (Newcastle Chronicle)

Despite being told a girl he was speaking to on a dating app was 14, rather than 18 as advertised, Blyth pervert Liam Williamson still engaged in sexual chat with her.

He went on to arrange to meet the girl called Laurie at McDonald's in Blyth - but the profile was actually being run by vigilante group Guardians of the North who contacted the police.

During a hearing, the court heard how he asked her to send him pictures in her bra and knickers and of her genitals and then arranged to meet her.

He also said: "I could show you how to touch yourself but don't tell your mam or anyone, okay?"

When arrested, the 28-year-old said he would not have touched her unless she wanted him to.

Williamson, of Langley Avenue, Blyth, Northumberland, who has some additional learning needs, was jailed for 13 months at Newcastle Crown Court for attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming.

John Gibson

John Gibson, who was caught by paedophile hunters trying to sexually communicate with a child (Newcastle Chronicle)

This former nursing assistant collapsed when he was confronted by paedophile hunters for trying to have sex chats with a 12-year-old on Facebook.

John Gibson befriended what he believed to be a real child online, not realising it was a decoy account set up by vigilantes.

Despite being repeatedly told he was talking to a 12-year-old child, the 50-year-old started to talk about sex, said he could be her "first boyfriend".

He also sent a graphic picture and videos and requested the same in return - but he was apprehended by police when he was lured to a date with an adult where the force was called.

Gibson, of Hastings Street, Sunderland, admitted attempting to cause a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause a child under 13 to watch a sexual act.

He was sentenced to three years and two months behind bars and must sign the sex offenders register for life and abide by a sexual harm prevention order for ten years.

Mark Duffield

Mark Duffield, 31, was jailed for 12 months (Durham Police)

Mark Duffield had more than 5,500 indecent images in his possession when officers searched his County Durham home on October 12, last year.

When caught, the 31-year-old told police he was "just perverted" and immediately owned up to officers telling them he "knew he would be caught" at some point.

His Samsung mobile was seized and examined, with 979 category A, 1,336 category B, and 3,200 category C images found.

Duffield appeared at Durham Crown Court to be sentenced for three counts of making indecent images between April 13, 2020 and October 3, last year.

Duffield, of Polden Close, Peterlee was jailed for 12 months and made subject of a 10 year sexual harm prevention order.

He will also be on the sex offenders' register for 10 years.

Michael Strange

Michael Strange, former cricket coach jailed for indecently assaulting boys (Newcastle Chronicle)

This former cricket coach who was 'greatly admired' and coached at clubs including Durham County Cricket Club, has been jailed for a fourth time for abusing young boys.

Serial predator Michael Strange was jailed for six years for offences against three boys in 2012 and was locked up again in 2016 for three years for offences including rape.

Then in 2020 Strange of Upton Street, Teams, Gateshead, got four-and-a-half years for indecently assaulting another boy.

In the latest offences, Strange showed one boy a pornographic film and indecently assaulted him.

He then told him that if his parents asked what they had been doing, he should tell them watching the cricket.

The 61-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault and was jailed for 40 months.

He was already in prison for the 2020 case and indefinite sex offender registration and a sexual harm prevention order continue to be in force.

Arthur Marsh

Arthur Marsh, jailed for making and distributing indecent images (Newcastle Chronicle)

Arthur Marsh boasted that he had raped a two-year-old, said children were for sex, claimed he enjoyed making them scream and bragged that he lived near youngsters during disturbing chats with a fellow paedophile.

While there was no evidence he had physically hurt children as he claimed, police found a disgusting collection of pictures and videos.

The offences came to light when officers went to his bedsit at Graingerville South, Newcastle, in November 2019 after he posted an indecent image on Facebook of two girls aged around five or six.

When his devices were seized, pictures and videos, some in the most serious category, were found with material including a girl aged between five and nine being raped.

Marsh, 48, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images, three counts of distributing them, and possessing extreme pornography featuring a horse and a woman.

He was jailed for two years and eight months and must sign the sex offenders register for life and will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

Jamie Teasdale

Jamie Teasdale, jailed for attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming and indecent images offences (Newcastle Chronicle)

Pervert Jamie Teasdale made persistent attempts to groom and meet a child called Chloe and was twice caught with indecent images of children.

However, the profile he was talking to was actually being run by paedophile hunters Guardians of the North who told Teasdale she was 13.

He went on to groom her for sex, telling her she was attractive and asking for images of her and admitted he would have engaged in sexual activity with her if she had been real.

Police also found child abuse images on his phone and then later found he had downloaded more after his initial arrest.

Teasdale of Sheriffs Highway, Gateshead, has been jailed for three years at Newcastle Crown Court.

As well as the prison sentence, he will have to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely and be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.

Mark Paul Copeland

Mark Copeland, 58, was sentenced at Durham Crown Court (Durham Police)

Described as a "deviant" paedophile, Mark Paul Copeland carried out sexual assaults on two children and then tried to "emotionally blackmail" one of his victims.

He subjected one child to sickening sexual assaults several decades ago and then went on to commit further sex offences against another child.

The 58-year-old was described by a judge as having "little, or no dignity" and was found guilty of his crimes following a trial in November.

Copeland, of Ferryhill, appeared at Durham Crown Court to be sentenced for charges of sexual assault, indecent assault, sexual communication with a child, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity with a child and witness intimidation.

Copeland was given a nine-year prison sentence, with a one-year extension and another five years for the second victim. The sentences will be served consecutively meaning a total of 15 years.

He was also made subject to a lifelong restraining order and indefinite sexual harm prevention order.
