The murder of Brittany Hill

Brittany Hill

Brittany Hill was shot to death while holding her one-year-old daughter in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood on May 25.

The 24-year-old was talking with two acquaintances outside a car in the 1200 block of North Mason Avenue when two men drove up in a silver Chevy Impala, got out of the car and shot Hill in the upper body around 8:50 a.m., police said.

During the incident, Hill tried to hide behind other parked vehicles while shielding her daughter. The baby was not injured.

Just before 39-year-old Michael Washington allegedly fired at the group of people Hill was standing with from the passenger seat of the Impala, the one-year-old girl smiled and waved at him and 23-year-old Eric Adams — who was driving the car, prosecutors said.

Judge John F. Lyke Jr. denied bail for both men when they appeared at an initial hearing May 27 on charges of first-degree murder in Hill’s death.

The apparent targets of the shooting are believed to be the people Hill was standing with when the shots rang out, authorities said.
