The moving tribute to Emiliano Sala just paid by Nantes and their fans

Emotions ran high in Nantes on Sunday afternoon when the French club marked the 12-month anniversary of the Emiliano Sala tragedy with a moving tribute.

The Argentine striker was on his way to link up with Cardiff City in the Premier League when the aircraft carrying him crashed near the Channel Island of Guernsey on January 21.

Nantes, who traditionally play in yellow and green, wore a commemorative outfit for their French League One home game with Bordeaux on Sunday.

The kit is for sale and the club say profits will be allocated to Sala’s training clubs in Argentina.

“Because he dreamed of wearing Argentina’s shirt, Nantes players will leave their usual yellow and green jersey for a white and blue tunic,” Nantes said in a statement.

A picture of Sala was displayed in the centre circle at Stade de La Beaujoire and a minute’s applause was held in his memory just before kick-off.
