The Motherwell hero guiding the next generation - Lanarkshire Live Sport Podcast #2

He's a Motherwell hero in the eyes of all at Fir Park - and Steven Hammell is still working tirelessly behind the scenes to help the club produce more like him.

The 'Well academy director will be inducted into the club's Hall of Fame this weekend. Having played 583 games in claret and amber, Hammell is Motherwell’s post-war record appearance holder.

He's as modest as they come, despite the former left-back's achievements in ML1.

Hammell has risen from the academy product cleaning cars to Mr Reliable, only once departing the club for a short spell at Southend United.

A testimonial beckoned during his playing career and he would go on to make 23 appearances in European football, a feat that no other player has matched at Fir Park.

Now the academy director at the club that brought him through, Hammell sits down for a chat on the Lanarkshire Live Sport Podcast.

He discusses his career at Motherwell, the importance of educating young stars and how the Fir Park academy is developing under his watch.
