A Georgia woman says Waffle House refused to serve her because of what she was wearing, making her wonder whether the restaurant has a dress code. A Waffle House worker has gone viral with her response.
Tierra Nicole’s (@justcallmeetiti) TikTok, which has 240,300 views, begins with a stitch from another creator. The creator in the stitched video is walking along the street as they declare, “Apparently, they have a dress code at the Athens, Georgia Waffle House.” The TikToker’s full outfit is not visible. However, they appear to be wearing a spiked choker and a tank top with heavy, dark eye makeup.
Nicole then chimes in. She says, based on her experience, it must only be the Athens location that has a dress code. The geotag on her video indicates that she lives in Redan, Georgia.
“Last week, I literally served a girl who was wearing a see-through dress, no undergarments,” Nicole says. “I saw everything God gave her.”
Additionally, she says she served a man in a bikini. She notes that there’s a sign that says, “SHIRT AND SHOES MUST BE WORN TO BE SERVED,” but she doesn’t heed it.
She says she’s served a man covered in blood (hindsight tells her she should’ve called the police, but it’s too late now). Also, she served a man who lost his shoes in a fight with his lover. Both men tipped. She adds that she’s been flashed at least four times by both men and women.
“Long story short, they just didn’t want to serve you I don’t think,” she concludes, addressing the creator she stitched.
‘There’s gotta be more to that story’
In the comments section, viewers were surprised by the supposed dress code at the Athens location.
“‘I was kicked out of a waffle house’ is the most unbelievable story I have heard in a long time,” one wrote.
A second said, “I live in Athens, Georgia. They absolutely do not have a dress code. There is more to that story. Also, I dress a lot like her so there’s no way have never been given any [expletive] anywhere. I don’t always do the make up for the record.”
A third shared, “One time my friend’s tube top fell all the way down and no one batted an eye.”
However, another argued that Nicole’s willingness to serve people who don’t follow the common “no shirt, no shoes, no service” rule has to do with her location.
“You’re in Stone Mountain,” they wrote. “That ain’t the same as Athens. SM is known for debauchery.” Nicole agreed, responding, “Yes ma’am” followed by two crying emoji.
Does Waffle House have a dress code?
As seen in the video, yes, Waffle House does have standard rules on how you must be dressed to be served. However, does it go beyond that?
Mashed notes, “While Waffle House is hardly an exclusive establishment where you can’t get through the door without conforming to a strict dress code, it does, however, have the same expectations of its customers as every other public place. You can expect to be asked to leave, or perhaps escorted off the premises by persons in uniform, should you walk through the doors stark naked and waving a machete.”
Additionally, unlike most restaurants, Waffle Houses have “House Rules” displayed prominently. The streaking slicer is an extreme example. Additionally, the House Rules don’t explicitly mention nudity or machetes. But both are likely prohibited under the obscene clothing and abusive behavior rules, respectively.
The creator in Nicole’s video appears to be wearing an *NSYNC “No Strings Attached” tank top, which workers likely didn’t consider obscene. It is possible that some feature of the shirt not visible in the video—the bottoms she was wearing or her shoes, or her accessories—was the objectionable part of her outfit.
