The most reliable penalty takers in the Premier League

Four penalties have been awarded in the opening two weeks of the 2019/20 Premier League season, only one of which has not been scored.

A lot has been said about Paul Pogba after his missed effort for Manchester United in the 1-1 draw with Wolves, particularly given the fact that he has missed four for the Red Devils since the start of the 2018/19 campaign.

That gives the World Cup winner an unwanted stat, as he and Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson are the only players to have missed more than once in the Premier League in that period, but it is not all doom and gloom for the Man United midfield.

Pogba has scored the second-most penalties in the Premier League since the start of last season, netting seven times - a tally that is only bettered by Crystal Palace’s Luka Milivojevic.

The Eagles ace is undeniably the king of penalties in the top-flight, scoring nine times from the spot since the start of last season and missing just once.

Newcastle only had one successful Premier League penalty last season - but it was a big one.

Matt Ritchie's goal from the spot gave United their 2-1 win over Manchester City, with the Scot also scoring a penalty in the FA Cup against Blackburn. However, Ritchie missed from the spot in the dramatic 3-2 win against Everton in March.

Kenedy missed from 12 yards 12 months ago in the goalless draw at Cardiff - while Miguel Almiron saw an effort saved against Preston in pre-season.

How to get the best out of Joelinton and Almiron

Bournemouth’s Joshua King is also a reliable man from the penalty spot, netting on six occasions in the same period, while Brighton’s Glenn Murray, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Leicester’s Jamie Vardy have scored four.

You can see the full list of players to have scored more than twice from the penalty spot since the start of last season below - with Ritchie added for good measure.
