The most popular Instagram photo is now of an egg, sorry Kylie Jenner

Kylie Jenner has had to relinquish her crown as the person with the most liked Instagram photo ever... to an egg.

The record was smashed (or scrambled) on Sunday night, when a plain image of a speckled egg beat Jenner's previous record of 18.2 million likes on a single post.

Posted by an account called @world_record_egg on January 4, the egg is (so far) the only picture the account has uploaded. At the time of writing, the post is now well on its way to doubling Kylie’s previous record with 25.2 million likes.

The most-liked image on Instagram was previously of Kylie Jenner’s baby daughter Stormi Webster, which she posted on February 6 2018, just a few days after she was born.

Buzzfeed contacted the owner of the new record-holding account, who identified themselves as Henrietta - “a chicken from the British countryside”. She says the egg's name is "Eugene."

Like most silly ideas, the egg challenge idea was apparently born out of boredom - and a lack of alcohol. “I stopped drinking for Dry January…[then I] read an article regarding the top 20 posts on Instagram, Kylie Jenner topped it with 18m" Henrietta explained.

She then decided to set herself the impossible task: to beat Kylie Jenner’s record. However, she did stress that it was “nothing personal”.

Even if it wasn’t personal for Henrietta, Jenner isn’t going down without a fight, sharing her own comeback with the caption, “Take that little egg”.

Jenner's sister Kendall - who held the most-liked photo title before her sister - responded to the video “lmaooooo”.

2019 is weird.
