The most popular curry dishes on Deliveroo

Deliveroo has revealed the most commonly ordered curry dishes on the app in Bristol, as the popularity of Indian cuisine across the UK soars in lockdown.

The food delivery platform said there has been a shift from UK customers searching for specific restaurants on the app to now searching general takeaway categories, with Chinese and Indian taking the spot for the most searched terms.

Burgers, previously the most popular menu item for Brits on Deliveroo in 2019, are no longer on top.

Orders of Indian cuisine in the UK rocketed by 42 per cent in the past two months, said a Deliveroo spokesperson.

They added Bristol has ordered the second most curry per capita in the past two months out of any other UK city, just after Birmingham, with Brighton in third place.

This also marks a 37 per cent uplift in the city’s Indian cuisine orders, compared to before lockdown.

Bristol’s most popular Indian dishes on Deliveroo over the past two months:

  1. Madras from Raj Pavillions - Gloucester Road, Horfield
  2. Tikka Masala from The Clove - Luckwell Road, Bedminster
  3. Korma from Joy Raj - Regent Street, Clifton Village
  4. Saag Paneer from Msala library - High Street, Easton
  5. Butter Chicken from 4500 Miles From Delhi - Colston Avenue, city centre

But the company has also seen an increase in orders of less traditional takeaway dishes.

Vegetarian Indian food for example, has seen a 26 per cent uplift in popularity compared to this time last year.

Orders of Indian street food are also on the rise, with favourites including masala dosa, kathi rolls and pav bhaji.

According to Deliveroo, the top 10 cities ordering the most curries during lockdown are:

  1. Birmingham
  2. Bristol
  3. Brighton
  4. Glasgow
  5. Liverpool
  6. London
  7. Manchester
  8. Edinburgh
  9. Leeds
