The most popular baby boy and girl names in the world right now

Picking a baby name can be pretty tough.

While some like to keep their shortlist to themselves out of fear others might influence their decision, others prefer to take inspiration from the things and people around them.

Baby boy and girl names often vary in popularity depending on where we are in the world, but new data has revealed which monikers have appeal across the globe.

Baby name website Nameberry has released the current "top international names" based primarily on the number of times each name featured in a national top ten, taking into account spelling variations.

Nameberry's new data is based on 2019 baby name statistics from New Zealand, Turkey, Monaco, Albania and more.

The website did point out, however, that there's "still a lot of national data outstanding for 2019" so the current rankings "are only provisional."

According to the current statistics, Mila sits at the top of the baby girl names list, featuring in the top ten in Flanders, Monaco, the Netherlands and New Zealand.

While Amelia came in second alongside the alternative spelling of Amelja in Albania, and was also in the top ten in New Zealand and Scotland.

Olivia came in third overall on the international rankings, after topping the list for the UK in 2019.

The top ten international girl names are as follows:

1. Mila

2. Amelia

3. Olivia

4. Sophie

5. Isla

6. Victoria

7. Charlotte

8. Emma

9. Ella
