The most peaceful places in London revealed in tranquility index

Hidden spaces offering a respite from the rat race have been revealed in a new “tranquillity index”.

A start-up has spent three years working with academics and crowdsourcing for the most peaceful places to get a break from noise and pollution in London.

The Grand Union Canal, Hammersmith Park Japanese Garden and a ruined church near the Tower of London all make the Tranquil City Index top 10.

Top ten

1. Woodberry Wetlands, Stoke Newington

2. St Dunstan-in-the-East, City

3. Cody Dock, Bow Creek

4. Beckenham Place Park

5. Postman’s Park, City

6: Red Cross Garden

7: Myatt’s Fields Park

8: Southmere Lake, Thamesmead

9: Hammersmith Park Japanese Garden

10: Grand Union Canal, Paddington Arm

The index was the brainchild of start-up founder Grant Waters, 28. The acoustic consultant came up with the idea after taking time off from his “overwhelming” work and commuting schedule.

He said: “The top 10 [list] we gave are exciting places we think people may not have explored already. If people find their own, they can share this to our app by writing #tranquilcityLondon on Instagram or Twitter.”
